Apple granted patents on iPod shuffle design, app switching, micro-perforated technique

On Wednesday, Apple was awarded a total of eight patents, including one on design of the latest iPod shuffle, one on iOS app switching enabling users to answer phone calls while using applications and one on micro-perforated coating allowing for illumination of solid-looking objects.
Among numerous co-inventors, the patent on the ornamental iPod shuffle design, filed in May this year, lists Apple ex-CEO Steve Jobs.

iPod nano and iPod shuffle could receive larger built-in speakers

On Thursday, Apple published a patent application suggesting that the company is investigating the possibility of integrating much larger speakers into the current iPod shuffle and iPod nano. The so-called “Speaker Clip” is supposed to build a flat-panel speaker right into the clip itself sufficiently improving the device’s sound.
